History

Marmara University is one of the most established educational institutions in our country. Marmara University gave its first graduates (13 people) in 1887, on January 16, 1883, under the name of Hamidiye Ticaret Mekteb-i Âlisi. The school, which was affiliated with the Ministry of Education on September 21, 1889, was abolished in 1893 for future rehabilitation and reopening. It was reopened again on October 15, 1897 under the Ministry of Education, and has continued its educational activities ever since.
Our institution became Istanbul Academy of Economic and Commercial Sciences in 1959, and it took its place among Turkish Higher Education Institutions under the name of Marmara University with the arrangements made in 1982.
Marmara University started education and training with 9 faculties, 1 college and 1 institute in 1982 - 1983 academic year. Today, the number of faculties has increased to 16, the number of colleges to 5, and the number of institutes to 11. The number of associate and undergraduate programs still open at our university is 199.
Marmara University, Turkey's scientific knowledge close to 3,000 faculty and staff to contribute to the students on the 70.000'n is one of the most important institutions of higher education. Marmara University grew rapidly after 1982, and continued its education and research duties with faculties, institutes, colleges, vocational schools and research and application centers. In addition to its teaching activities, our university, which develops its services for the society, attaches great importance to its publication and consultancy activities; In our century when non-industrial societies have become an information society, by adapting to the demands of the society, we contribute to the development of the necessary manpower and technology in our country; It successfully represents our country at home and abroad with its educational approach and research that will produce solutions to economic, political, cultural and similar problems.
